Semarang, June 1, 2026 – The Accounting Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University (FEB UNDIP), reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing students’ global perspectives through the organization of the UGS Accounting Seminar, featuring an international academic expert as the keynote speaker. Conducted virtually via Zoom, the seminar attracted active participation from lecturers and students of the Accounting Study Program.
The seminar featured Dr. Khaled Hussainey from Bangor University, United Kingdom, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on the development of sustainability reporting and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, which have become central issues in the global business and accounting landscape. The event was facilitated by FEB UNDIP faculty members and served as a platform for academic discussion on the challenges and opportunities surrounding sustainability reporting practices worldwide.
During his presentation, Dr. Hussainey highlighted the evolving role of corporate reporting, emphasizing that organizations are now expected to disclose not only financial information but also non-financial information related to environmental performance, social responsibility, and corporate governance. He explained that ESG transparency has become a critical factor in strengthening stakeholder trust, attracting investors, and enhancing corporate accountability.
One of the key topics discussed was the range of internationally recognized sustainability reporting frameworks and standards. Dr. Hussainey elaborated on several prominent frameworks, including the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), and other non-financial reporting regulations that continue to evolve across jurisdictions. The discussion provided participants with valuable insights into the importance of harmonizing sustainability reporting standards to support transparency and comparability on a global scale.
The seminar also explored the practical implementation of ESG reporting within business organizations. Dr. Hussainey emphasized that companies capable of integrating sustainability considerations into their corporate strategies are better positioned to achieve long-term competitiveness and respond effectively to increasing regulatory and market expectations.

The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, during which students and faculty members discussed various issues related to sustainability disclosures, the challenges of ESG implementation in emerging economies, and the evolving role of accounting professionals in advancing sustainable business practices. The high level of interaction reflected participants’ enthusiasm for understanding contemporary developments in accounting and sustainability.
Through the UGS Accounting Seminar, the Accounting Study Program of FEB UNDIP aims to strengthen students’ knowledge of emerging issues in the accounting profession while fostering international academic collaboration with overseas universities. The seminar also supports the program’s broader objective of preparing graduates who are equipped to navigate the increasingly interconnected fields of financial reporting, sustainability, and corporate governance in a globalized economy.
